Mumbai: “I guess only cricketers can understand how it is to get picket for the national team,” said Hazel Keech who recalled husband Yuvraj Singh crying when his national kit arrived in 2014.

Yuvraj, who had had a stunning career with the Indian cricket team, being known throughout the cricketing fraternity for his effortless power on the bat and left-arm spinning, was left shocked when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2011.

Following the completion of his chemotherapy sessions a year later in March 2012, Yuvi returned to India as well as playing cricket. Though Singh was just as dangerous with his spinning abilities, grabbing the most wickets for India in the 2012 ICC World Twenty20, his batting form had taken a hit.

He was eventually not selected for the national team for the 2014 Asia Cup. However, Yuvraj was sent the national cricket kit thanks to his selection for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20.

The player announced his retirement on June 10 at a press conference in Mumbai, retiring from all formats of the sport. Yuvraj has played for India in 40 tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20s, scoring over 11,000 runs and grabbing 148 wickets along the way.
