Tamim Iqbal to take 'mental break' from cricket: report
Mumbai: According to a report by ESPN Cricinfo, Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal has reportedly requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board for a ‘mental break’ from cricket. The report also states that the board has approved his break and Iqbal will leave for a physical fitness camp.
The left-handed batsman will miss Bangladesh’s one-off Test with Afghanistan and the T20I series that would follow. He will directly be available for the tour of India in November where both the sides will play three T20Is and two Tests.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board had earlier granted a break to Shakib al Hasan last month during the ODI Series against Sri Lanka.
The report also states that the reason for this request is due to a difficult three months in the cricketer’s life. He was repeatedly slammed on social media for his poor performances in the 2019 ICC World Cup and the Sri Lanka series.
