Yuzvendra Chahal breaks Bumrah's record, becomes 1st bowler to scalp 50 T20I
Mumbai: During the third and final T20I match, apart from Rohit Sharma and Deepak Chahar, Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also broke a record.
During the match, Chahal surpassed Jasprit Bumrah to become the fastest Indian bowler to scalp 50 T20I wickets. The leggie registered the feat after he bowled out Bangladesh Captain Mahmudullah Riyad for 8.
Before the match, Chahal had 49 T20I scalps, but after taking Mahmudullah’s wicket, the Indian spinner became the first to scalp 50 wickets so quickly.
Chahal achieved the feat in 34 appearances, while Bumrah took 41 matches to touch the milestone. Also, Ashwin is the third Indian to have achieved the landmark in 42 appearances.
Overall, Chahal is the fifth quickest bowler to pick up 50 T20I wickets, standing just after Ajantha Mendis (26), Imran Tahir (31), and Rashid Khan (31 matches).
At the moment, Chahal is the third top Indian bowler to have claimed most wickets in T20Is and he just needs three more wickets to surpass Ashwin and top the list.
