Brian Lara congratulates Chris Gayle for breaking his records; see tweet
Mumbai: Chris Gayle was successful in breaking two records of Windies legend Brian Lara during the second ODI match between India and West Indies.
The 39-year-old first overtook Lara to become the highest ODI capped player for the West Indies with his 300th ODI appearance. Later, Gayle surpassed Lara to become the Caribbean nation's highest run-scorer in ODIs.
Lara took it to social media to congratulate the 'Universe Boss' for achieving this feat. Gayle became the sole Windies player to feature in 300 ODIs when he was named in the starting squad for the second ODI against India. India eventually registered a win against the West Indies.

Prior to the India-West Indies ODI series, Gayle was 11 runs away from surpassing Lara and becoming the leading run-scorer for his nation. Gayle eventually achieved the feat in the ninth over of the second ODI.
Gayle has now scored 10408 runs in 300 ODI appearances for West Indies. He also leads the chart for most centuries and most sixes for his nation. Gayle has smashed 26 centuries and 53 half-centuries for West Indies.
Gayle is also expected to feature in the third ODI of the series. However, the left-hander was left out of the two-match Test series between both the nations.
