MIG Cricket Club’s Sumit Ghadigaonkar is knocking on the selectors’ doors again after putting up another swashbuckling display at the 70th Police Shield Cricket Tournament. The opening batsman slammed another double ton in the tournament against Islam Gymkhana on Sunday and led his team to another dominating victory.

As soon as he took the crease, Sumit was a nightmare for Islam Gymkhana’s bowlers, who conceded a total of 472 runs in 70 overs. Sumit scored 200 runs in 186 balls with 21 boundaries and three sixes. This knock was his second consecutive double century after his feat in the previous matchweek where Sumit scored 229 against PJ Hindu Gymkhana.

The 25-year old is waiting to make it to the squad of the Mumbai team that could use his services at the top of the order. “I am doing my job of getting runs on the board to make it to the team. I think a few more knocks might impress the selectors,” said Sumit, who is employed with the Reserve Bank of India under cricket recruitment.

The Mumbai team will be facing Andhra away from home from November 17 for which the 16-man squad will be announced this week. Sumit is keeping his fingers crossed.
