A person of interest emerges in fixing story
Mumbai: The two Indian bookies, who are alleged to have been trying to fix the third Ashes Test, were also on the radar of BCCI’s anti-corruption unit, it is learnt.
The duo are reported to have shown interest in spot-fixing. Though no players are found to have been approached and both boards — Cricket Australia and the England Cricket Board — have also denied the allegations, the ICC is “alert” to the development.
According to highly-placed sources in the BCCI, one of the two, whose first name is the same as a famous former West Indies all-rounder, is known as a “person of interest” in the circle.
“He is a notorious character and very much on the radar of the anti-corruption Unit,” a BCCI official said.
“The so-called coach runs a cricket academy in Delhi. His father is a member of the Delhi and District Cricket Association. He used to tempt young players and offer them opportunities in domestic cricket. We had received anonymous complaints from a few players but nobody came forward to lodge it officially and therefore the ACU could not take action against him.”
