Saqib Rizvi Memorial Intercollege cricket tournament from Friday

Defending champions Rizvi College and last year’s runners-up R.A. Podar College have been given first round byes.

A total of 42 college teams will be participating in the eighth Saqib Rizvi Memorial Inter-Collegiate Rotating Trophy cricket tournament, which will be organised by the Junior College’s Sports Association of Mumbai  and sponsored by the Rizvi Education Society. It is scheduled to commence on Thursday.

The tournament, which is set to be conducted under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association, will be inaugurated today at the Dadkar Maidan in Matunga at 9 am. This will be followed by the first round matches. Defending champions Rizvi College and last year’s runners-up R.A. Podar College have been given first round byes.

The tournament will be played on a direct knockout format and all the matches will be played according to the model rules of MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) relating to the conduct of the Cricket Tournament for Boys.

The initial rounds up to the quarter-finals will be an 45-overs a side match played over one day. The semi-finals and finals will be a two-day match.
