Rohit Sharma two hits away from breaking this humongous record

The 32-year-old, however, need to hit two sixes to be the third batsman to hit 400 sixes in International cricket.

Mumbai: As India gear up for their first-ever Day-Night encounter against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Rohit Sharma will be looking stamp his dominance by turning on his hit-mode. The ‘hitman’ will aim to smash a ton with few sixes, after having dismissed for six in the first Test match.

The 32-year-old, however, need to hit two sixes to be the third batsman to hit 400 sixes in International cricket.

Currently, the 2019 World Cup top-scorer is the only Indian cricketer with most sixes in international cricket (398). The ODI opener has hit 51 sixes in 31 Tests, 232 in 218 ODIs and 115 in 101 T20is respectively. Rohit is also the third cricketer after Chris Gayle and Shahid Afridi to have smashed most sixes.

Moreover, the ODI vice-captain also has the chance to topple Gayle and Afridi as Gayle have been overlooked continuously for the national side, and Afridi has retired from the international cricket in February 2017. Currently, the cricketer stands at third with ex-New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, who also has hit 398 sixes.

Coming back to the Test series, Virat Kohli and his men have already taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series by crushing a depleted Bangladeshi side by an innings and 130-runs. With the teams now set to face each other on Friday, Rohit Sharma will aim to make a statement in his first-ever Day-Night Test match, by scoring another with two or more sixes.
