Mumbai: Indian skipper Virat Kohli is on the brink of overhauling former captain MS Dhoni's captaincy record in Test matches. If India emerge victorious over Windies in the second and final Test of the two-match series, Kohli will topple Dhoni to become India's most successful captain in terms of wins.

A victory will also give India a 2-0 series win and 120 points – 60 each for a victory.

Kohli had equalled MS Dhoni’s tally of 27 Test wins as captain when India trounced West Indies by 318 runs in the first Test in the Sir Viv Richards Stadium at Antigua.

Player Matches Won Lost Tied Draw
MS Dhoni 60 27 18 0 15
V Kohli 47 27 10 0 10
S Ganguly 49 21 13 0 15
M Azharuddin 47 14 14 0 19
S Gavaskar 47 9 8 0 30

Kohli also went past Sourav Ganguly’s tally most away Test wins as captain in India’s last victory.

India has now won 12 matches in overseas conditions under Kohli's leadership, overtaking Ganguly to be the most successful Indian captain in overseas conditions.

Kohli has also achieved the best win ratio as the skipper of Team India's Test captain. The 30-year-old's win rate in 57.44 per cent in the longest format of the game.

Kohli would be looking for a clean sweep against West Indies by amassing a huge total on the board and relying on the fast-bowling trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Shami and Ishant Sharma to dismantle Windies' batting line-up.
