Jennings to replace Hameed in England squad
Mohali: 2016 English County Championship highest scorer Keaton Jennings is set to replace the injured Haseeb Hameed in the England squad, ahead of the fourth Test against India next week.
Meanwhile, Liam Dawson is also set to replace Zafar Ansari in the England squad, ahead of the last two Tests against India.
Hameed, who suffered a finger injury during the third Test in Mohali, will miss the last two Tests of the series against India, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Tuesday.
According to reports in the English media, the Three Lions are set to make a like-for-like change, replacing Hameed with England Lions opener Keaton Jennings.
The England team have already flown off to Dubai to cool off, as there is a week’s gap between the third Test, which was at Mohali, and the fourth Test, which is to get underway on Thursday, December 8.
The England Lions are also currently on a tour to Dubai, and media reports suggest that a player from ECB’s second tier cricket side will be called up as Hameed’s replacement.
Dawson has represented England in one ODI and one T20I, and is also set to join the England squad before the commencement of the fourth Test.
Jennings, who is also to son of ex-South Africa coach Ray Jennings, plays his County cricket for Durham. The 24-year-old was the highest run-getter in the 2016 County Championships, scoring 1,548 runs, at a staggering average of 64.5.
England are in deep trouble in the five-match Test series against India, which they are currently trailing 2-0 after three matches.
The Three Lions are no more in a position where they can win the series. However, they still have a chance of drawing level with India, if they win the two remaining Tests.
