BFC appoint Huguet as Roca's deputy

Roca is confident a smooth transition will take place owing to Huguet's roots at La Masia.

Bengaluru: Bengaluru FC have been forced into making a change in their backroom staff following erstwhile assistant manager Carlos Cuadrat’s departure from the club, and have filled the void with the appointment of ex-Barcelona youth coach Marc Huguet.

Cuadrat’s longstanding relationship with manager Albert Roca at the club was brought to an abrupt end because of health concerns, and the club has done well to find his replacement on such short notice. Roca is confident a smooth transition will take place owing to Huguet’s roots at La Masia.

“The function of an assistant is always important. Marc has been a professional and a friend of mine for a long time. This was something I was looking for in Carlos’ absence,” said the 55-year-old on Friday.

Spain’s Huguet ought to blend in seamlessly after taking his coaching bow with the Barcelona U-18 unit, where he worked alongside talents like Sergio Busquets, Rafinha, Bojan, Marc Bartra and Gerard Delefeou.
