New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday posted for hearing on Friday a special leave petition filed by the All India Football Federation challenging an interim order of the Delhi high court quashing election of office-bearers including the president and member of Parliament, Praful Patel.
A bench of Justices J. Chelameswar and Abdul Nazeer directed the matter to be listed on November 10 on a mention made by counsel Amit Anand Tiwari for urgent hearing.
The AIFF said the high court has erroneously set aside results of the federation’s elections declared on 21.12.2016, ahead of the football season comprising of the Indian Super League and the I-League both starting later this month and the bidding process for the Fifa Under-20 World Cup 2019 which is to be completed by November 14.
The petitioner said the national football team was participating in various international tournaments conducted by Fifa, which recognised the team nominated by the national sports federation, which is allowed to participate in the same.
If an administrator is appointed, the federation may face threat of de-recognition, thereby causing recall of national teams from the various tournaments.
