Mumbai: Former Argentine player and the 1986 world cup winning-captain, Diego Maradona finally opened up about Argentina’s 2-0 loss in the opening game against Colombia.

Maradona, one of the greatest players to grace the game up until he was banned from playing due to failing a doping test in 1994, did not have very kind words.

“You realise that even Tonga could beat us,” said Maradona, speaking to TyC sports.

“We have a prestige we built up kicking and punching. Let it be remembered that when we left Peru our bus was smashed up,” he added.

Questioning if the team realises what wearing the blue and white Argentina shirt means, Maradona continued to attack the team. “What does this shirt mean? You have to feel it, for f**k’s sake,” he said.

Earlier, captain Lionel Messi had also opened up about the loss and spoke of the team realising their mistakes and improving in the matches that come ahead.

Argentina face Paraguay next on June 19 and later face guests Qatar on June 23. The team is currently on the bottom of the group table and need to make it to at least the second place to qualify to the next stage of the tournament.
