Argentina witness two football ties in a day; Messi and men slump, women survive

Mumbai: Argentina, one of the prime nations when it comes to football are facing a rather crisis-ridden time at the moment.

The country, which ranks 11th on the FIFA global rankings, has been known throughout history for producing some of the best players who have not only graced the game but have carved their names on the pages of football history. This includes legends like Gabriel Batistuta, Diego Maradona, and current Argentine captain Lionel Messi.

However, Argentina was forced to see two draws in a single day. While the men’s team led by Lionel Messi barely escaped Copa America demise thanks to a penalty scored by the captain and a sublime save by Franco Armani, the women’s team kept their hopes alive at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019.

The team led by Florencia Bonsegundo, were down by 3-0 up until the 70th minute of the game. The men’s team at the Copa America meanwhile, were already in deep trouble following their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Colombia, who now leads the group. After a draw against Paraguay, Argentina are now last in the group. The team now must win its match against Qatar on June 23 to stand any chances of progressing in the tournament.
