I-league: Indian Arrows prove too hot for Lajong
New Delhi: Indian Arrows overturned their three-match losing run in some style, thrashing a 10-man Shillong Lajong 3-0 in an I-League match here on Tuesday.
The youth side went ahead through Jitendra Singh (19th minute).
Nongdamba Naorem (86th) and Rahul Kannoly (90+1) put gloss to their performance, which vaulted them to sixth in the standings with six points from five matches. Lajong stayed at fourth with 10 from seven.
Arrows lost their previous three defeats but toyed with Lajong at the Ambedkar Stadium, controlling possession, passing accurately to notch up their second win.
The Arrows played the final half hour with a one-man advantage after Lajong’s F. Lalrohlua was sent off for his second bookable offence.
Their midfield trio of Jeakson Singh Thounaojam, Amarjit and Suresh Singh were impressive, creating several chances.
The visitors pressed for the equaliser after the break but their hopes were dampened with the red card of Lalrohlua.
Naorem’s then consolidated Arrows’ advantage with a fine solo effort, followed by Kannoly’s strike.
