Mumbai marathon gets a new sponsor
The 15th edition of the coveted Mumbai Marathon will be held in the city on January 21, 2018. At an event held on Tuesday, Tata Group was declared as the title sponsor for the upcoming edition of the marathon.
Olympic two-time Gold medallist Haile Gebrselassie who was present at the event emphasised how budding Indian runners can take the country to the big stage. The sporting idol motivated the crowd with his wit and humour. “In the last couple of years, I have seen India’s growing influence as a global running destination; the increasing number of races and participants here, is a testimony to the growing pool of talent available, and the potential for India to be a force to reckon with in running,” he said. The event witnessed the presence of ornate fitness icons of Mumbai including John Abraham and Gul Panag from B’town. Adding to the glamour were music composers, Salim and Sulaiman who unveiled the anthem for the marathon written by Prasoon Joshi. John, who has been a staunch supporter and the face of the marathon, said, “I’m an atheist, but I think if I’ve to believe in something strong, it has to be fitness. The concept of Mumbai Marathon, which was launched 15 years ago, has today become a movement across the country. It is a platform that encourages the spirit of giving, as much as it teaches one the joy of living.”
