Bengaluru: Suleiman S. Attaollahi-trained Captain Morgan produced a brilliant turn of foot under Trevor Patel when it mattered most to triumph in the Dr. MAM. Ramaswamy Chettiar of Chettinad Memorial Stayers’ Cup, edging out the Hyderabad challenger Tintinnabulation close home in a sensational finish.

Trevor rode a confident race astride the course favourite. He sat well off the pace in the dozen-horse field till the heads turned for home, overcame the hurdle of traffic midway up the straight before poking through a narrow gap to challenge P.S. Chouhan-ridden Tintinnabulation who took over the running 300 metres from home and looked a clear winner at one stage.

With 100 metres to go, Chouhan looking back noticed Trevor was trying to close the gap and rode vigorously only to surrender to the Captain close home.

“Unlike in his last run where he was taken to the front early I decided to wait all the way before making my move and when I alerted him to the task he responded brilliantly,” said the elated jockey Trevor.

A similar action was witnessed in the Mysore Race Club Sprinters’ Cup. N.S. Parmar’s power-packed drive saw Adam get into rhythm in the nick of time to emerge victorious, leaving the late-flashing Smile Stone to fight off Shivalik Star, Multitude and the tiring Dancing Phoenix for the runner-up.
