Run for education
Bhumi, India’s largest non-profit organisation for youth volunteering, has begun promoting recreational activities for fitness with their upcoming initiatives. Combining it with a cause, Bhumi will be hosting ‘Bhumi India Run’ — a running event to promote fitness, while raising funds for Bhumi’s educational program-mes for underprivileged children.
Prahalathan Karunakaran, one of the co-founders of Bhumi, says, “We are leading busy, sedentary lives with no time to focus on personal fitness. Keeping this in mind, Bhumi has begun promoting recreational activities like running. Through these initiatives, we will also be raising funds for the education of under-privileged children across the country. Bhumi India Run will be the curtain raiser event and this is the first time it is happening in Chennai.”
The run that has two categories — 5 km and 10 km — will be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on April 9.
“After rolling out successful promotional editions in Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, we have reached our big stop, in Chennai. Apart from coming together for a social cause, the Bhumi India Run 2017 encourages running for both beginners and trained runners. This will be an authentic running experience — with a mix of trails, synthetic tracks and roads, for the first time. Apart from the 100 plus volunteers, we are expecting more than 2,000 runners for the event,” Prahalathan concludes.
