Vedanta Indian Squash Open in city from next month

Over 30 players from 10 countries are expected to participate in the six-day Vedanta Indian Squash Open 2018, at the National Sports Club of India, from February 6. The first season will see top seeded players from across the world battle it out for the coveted title and cash prize of $35,000.

Mumbai’s Mahesh Mangaonkar will be part of the  Indian challenge, headed by India no. 1 and World no. 16, Sourav Ghoshal. They will be joined by India's top players Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu, followed by few Indian player professional talents.

The professional event has attracted participants from ten countries including hosts India, Egypt, Switzerland, Australia, France, England, Scotland, Malaysia, Hongkong and Kuwait. The finals of the event, promoted by 5 Sports, will be played on February 11.

The tournament is supported by the Professional Squash Association (PSA), the governing body for professional squash in the world and is also supported by the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI), which is the main authoritative body for squash in India.

The growth of the sport in the country throughout the past few years has been hugely encouraging and I would like to congratulate 5 Sports for their efforts in putting on this tournament,” PSA Chief Executive, Alex Gough, commented in a press release.
