Arjuna and Dronacharya awardee, Sanjiva Singh and Indian rower, Dattu Baban Bhoknal participated in the “Indo Torch Run” to promote “Zero Waste of Food” in the city on Sunday. Bhoknal had qualified for Rio Summer Olympics in 2016.

The 32 km run also saw participation from well-trained professionals. The couple run had one person holding the torch and another, the Tri-Colour.

Singh and Bhoknal held the torch and flagged off at 7.30 am from Girgaon Chowpatty to Haji Ali along with Mumbai’s management gurus, the Dabbawalas, who provide tiffin service to thousands of Mumbaikars.

“We need to recognise this colossal scale of waste and take appropriate action that not only benefits humanity but the environment as well,” said Singh. Bhoknal was happy to be a part of this cause and spoke against wastage of food. “I request everybody, not to waste any food because 20 crore Indians sleep hungry on any given night,” he said.
