Central Secretariat, SAI advance in KOs

Central Secretariat routed Western Command TA 11-2 with Shailendra S. Bundela leading the way with four goals, all from penalty corners.

Central Secretariat and Sports Authority of India, Kuruks-hetra Centre advanced on the first day of knockout matches in the 11th OB-Maharaja Ranjit Singh hockey tournament at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the capital on Tuesday.

Central Secretariat routed Western Command TA 11-2 with Shailendra S. Bundela leading the way with four goals, all from penalty corners. Others getting on the scoresheet for the Secretariat team were Thimmanna Puliyanda, Jayesh Jadhav and Hassan Basha with a brace each and Gunasekar M. (1). For Western Command TA, Arun and Maninder Singh reduced the deficit twice but the army side were played off the park.

In the day’s other game, SAI, Kurukshetra, got the better of Shyamlal College 2-1 in a tight encounter. Mohit gave the Kurukshetra side the lead in the ninth minute which was cancelled out by Sarvan Kumar in the 25th minute. Jeetesh Sharma then got the decisive strike off a 40th minute field goal.

On Wednesday, SAI, Kuruksh-etra, take on Punjab National Bank Juniors in the first game while BSES, Delhi, meet Central Secretariat in the second.
