Anindith Reddy crowned JK Euro 16 Championship

Greater Noida: Hyderabad’s Anindith Reddy was crowned the champion of the JK Euro16 single-seater category in the JK Tyre National Racing Championship on Sunday after an eventful weekend in which he made a clean sweep by winning all four races.

The 26-year-old sealed the championship when he emerged on top in the penultimate race — a reverse grid affair in which he started sixth — and capped off the season with another come-from-behind win on Sunday afternoon.

Anindith has made rapid strides in domestic circuit despite the lack of karting background. After announcing his arrival by winning the Volkswagen Vento Cup last year, the next natural progression is racing in Europe. But the youngster hasn’t made up his mind yet.

“To be honest, I don’t want to go and ask my parents for money to race abroad. So far, I haven’t spent much for my racing career as the Euro16 seat was a reward for winning the Vento Cup last season,” said Anindith, the scion of the Apollo Healthcare family.

JK to start touring car series
JK Tyre, one of the long-standing promoters of Indian motorsport, is in talks with marquee sports car manufacturers such as Audi and Lamborghini to run a series in India next season. If it materialises, the championship will provide platform to youngsters who aspire to make it big in touring cars.

“An international touring car is the way forward for Indians as it’s a lot cheaper than the Formula machines. We brought the Formula BMW cars to India four years ago and since then it has helped a bunch of youngsters prepare for the tougher challenge in Europe,” said Raghupathi Singhania, the chairman of JK Tyres.

Singhania said JK is also developing tyres for Superbikes and in the process of starting a championship.
