Virdhawal Khade beats schooling, wins gold in Singapore

Khade will be representing India in the August Asian Games in Jakarta and he feels his performance in Singapore will motivate him.

Kolhapur swimmer Virdhawal Khade swam to bag gold medal in the 100m freestyle category at the Singapore National Swimming Championships. Khade won the gold with his season best timing of 50.26 seconds. Last week, he broke his own 50m freestyle record of 22.55 seconds from 2009 with a finish at 22.52 Seconds. During his gold winning feat Khade pipped home boy Joseph Schooling who was the gold medallist in the 100m butterfly at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

“I’m quite pleased with the 100m freestyle. It’s good to see the training is working and I am getting faster every time I race,” said Khade who is supported by Square Off Sports and currently trains in Bengaluru.

Khade will be representing India in the August Asian Games in Jakarta and he feels his performance in Singapore will motivate him.

“I am very motivated for the Asian Games and hoping to do very well in August. I feel it is all about staying injury-free and doing what I have been doing in the past months, as it seems to be helping me get better,” he added.
