Squash player Mahesh Mangaonkar was a touch away from making the final but lost his way at that stage to the top seed Abdulla Al Tamimi of Qatar in the Qatar Circuit 5, a PSA world tour event late on Monday in Doha.

The Mumbai based player, playing as third seed, was two games up and on match ball twice in the third in the semi-final, when he lost his grip and slipped. Tamimi seized the opportunity and made it an unimaginable win for himself at 8-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-7, 11-2. Mahesh till then had looked a picture of confidence, working past Ahmad Al Mudhaf (Kuwait) 11-6,11-1, 11-2 first then edging out country mate Abhay Singh 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 next. In the quarters he despatched the eighth seed Matias Tuomi of Finland 11-6, 11-3, 11-6. But the hope of a great finish at the end of the year eluded him.
