Microsoft's Surface Book has a fabric keyboard
Microsoft has unveiled its latest arsenal for battling the Macbook Air – the Surface Laptop. The flagship Laptop from Microsoft costs $999 and features the Windows 10 S as its core operating system.
The Surface Laptop features some great improvements for a Windows Laptop. It can run for 14.5 hours on its batteries, thanks to the presence of the latest Intel core i5 and i7 processors on board. Microsoft claims that the Surface Laptop’s battery life is greater than any Macbook Air present in the market.
The Surface Laptop has a 13.5-inch touchscreen display that is claimed to be slimmest LCD display to be present in the Laptop fraternity. The screen supports the Surface Pen, thus letting you draw images and illustrations with the precision of an actual pen.
The Surface Laptop will ship in four colours: platinum, burgundy, cobalt blue, and graphite gold. The body is made from lightweight aluminium for maintaining an under-three-pound weight. Microsoft has covered the backlit keyboard deck of the Surface Laptop in suede Alcantara fabric to emulate a posh look and feel. We have to see how the fabric keyboard fares over a year’s usage in the real world.
The Surface Laptop is targeted towards the student community who prefer a stylish and modern looking laptop that’s lightweight and can do fast computing. Microsoft's devices chief Panos Panay said regarding student’s computing requirements, “We talk to a lot of them... they're asking for a laptop, they're asking for a Surface laptop. So we built a laptop, and it's beautiful."
The base version of the Surface Laptop will be priced $999 with a Core i5 processor with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD storage. The Surface Laptop will start shipping in the US from June 15th.
