Huawei Wireless Charger review: A must-have for your table
A while ago, Huawei had announced the Mate 20 Pro, which is their flagship smartphone with wireless charging. To accompany the flagship product, they later announced the Wireless Charger that fits as a perfect companion for the phone. While the company claims that the wireless charger is the fastest known wireless charger around, the product is only highly compatible with the Huawei smartphone alone. Yes, it is also compatible with other phones from brands such as Samsung, Google and Apple, but it won’t charge them as fast as it can charge the Huawei phone. But is it worth an add-on to your existing gear?
The answer actually lies in your hands — would you want to invest around Rs 3,999 for a charger that can help with convenience at home or office or rather save on cost and use the old-school cable charging method?
Well, the product could be good use if you are looking for a convenient way to charge your phone at night or whilst working. The wireless charger can help you reduce the wear and tear on the USB Type C port of the smartphone. It can also be beneficial for those who are using their phones a lot during office hours — simply place it back on the charger and keep the battery topped up at all times.
The Huawei Wireless Charger is a 15W charger that supports quick charging. However, it is best compatible with Huawei’s own 40W smartphone charger/adaptor that comes with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Using another adapter will not give you the max power output as rated. Sadly, the Wireless Charger does not ship with a power adapter in the box in India and you would have to rely on the one that comes with the phones. The international variant of this wireless charger includes the 40W power adaptor as Huawei probably has reduced the price for India by eliminating it. A simple USB Type C to USB Type A cable has been included in the box.
Going forward, the charger is a simple puck-like white device which is coated with a silicon/rubber coating to help grip the smartphone when placed on it. The design is slick and the small footprint will ensure it does not occupy space on your desk. However, the white exterior is bound to get dirty soon — happy cleaning. The charger is also pretty small to lug around when you want to travel on holidays. It weighs just 78g, without the cable or charger.
The Wireless Charger is Qi-compatible and universally compatible with various phones. Charging the phone is as simple as just resting the device on it. If you own a Huawei Mate 20 Pro, then you can expect the phone to charge from zero to 50 per cent in flat 30 minutes, while charging it completely to 100 percent will take a little more than an hour. If you have another smartphone apart from a Huawei Mate 20 Pro, then expect around 15 to 25 per cent in around 30 minutes as the phones will receive only 7.5W to 10W max. Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro, when used with this charger, can pull a complete 15Watts in total, thus enabling quick charging support.
The charger has just one USB Type C port for input power and a simple LED indicator to show the status. However, unlike most conventional wireless chargers, the Huawei Wireless Charger can detect object other than smartphones and ensure that it does not damage the same. For example, it can detect coins, keys or anything that has metal in it. If a user accidentally does keep it on the charger, it will automatically cut the power to the coils. This technology can help safeguard objects such as ID cards, smart keys, and other similar gadgets that could get damaged by external induction. The built-in chip that can adjust the output power automatically according to the ambient temperature and real-time battery percentage. It features temperature protection, over voltage protection, under voltage protection and over current protection to safeguard the charging device.
If you are looking for a wireless charger for your existing smartphone, the Huawei Wireless Charger is a good choice as it does tick all the boxes on the needed list. We would recommend it if you have a Huawei Mate 20 Pro or any other smartphone for convenience in charging, especially in office or on your bedside table.
