Apple Watch 5 leaks; this is the smartwatch you have been waiting for
In comparison to the iPhone 11 lineup, details about the Apple Watch Series 5 are rather scarce. With the launch expecting to take place alongside the upcoming smartphones, new details about the next-generation smartwatch are beginning to surface. Weighing in on the speculation, notable Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Japan Display will be supplying OLED displays for the Apple Watch Series 5 that’s due to launch in the second half of 2019.
As per a research note that’s obtained by MacRumors, TF International Securities states that Japan Display will gradually increase its proportion of OLED display orders for the Apple Watch, starting with 15-20 per cent of orders in 2019 and reaching 70-80 per cent in 2021.
Speaking about the iPhone 11 lineup, Kuo claims that Apple will steadily increase the proportions of LG’s supply of OLED panels as well as employ Chinese manufacturer BOE as an additional supplier to diversify its supply chain.
The Apple Watch Series 5 will in all probability be announced alongside the iPhone 11 lineup and this doesn’t come as much of a surprise as Series 1 right up to Series 4 was launched in September. However, detailed rumours about the Series 5 smartwatch have been relatively quiet thus making this fresh leak a nice reassurance.
MacRumors states, “Kuo previously said a "new ceramic casing design" would be "added" to the Apple Watch lineup, but he did not explicitly mention Series 5 models. Reuters also reported that Japan Display would begin supplying OLED displays for the Apple Watch, but likewise did not specify Series 5 models.”
Looking at next year’s Apple Watch lineup, Kuo states that the upcoming smartwatch will be fitted with MicroLED displays in 2020.
