Smart timing

Lenovo's Carme smartwatch monitors your heart rate 24x7.

Smartwatches, fall into two buckets: those which monitor your heart rate and the ones that don't. If your main reason for wearing a device like this, is to keep track of your fitness regime, it makes sense to keep tabs on one's pulse rate -- especially if you are getting on in years and need to put a limit on your exercise plan.

Lenovo ventured into the smart health wearables niche some 6 months ago with the Ego which stuck to the traditional retro watch face. Now, with the Lenovo Carme, it has gone for a square 1.3-inch face and a more in-your-face silicone strap. The sensor on the bottom that touches your skin, can monitor heart rate on-demand or continuously 24x7. There are two side buttons and a touch button on the face. The fitness monitoring is quite elaborate -- with 8 sports modes including swimming, jogging, walking cycling as well as specific games like basketball and badminton. The battery is a generous 200 mAh -- good for a week or so.

Other phone sync features are standard. After making light ( literally!) of the actual watch, Lenovo has gone for a rather bulky strap which somewhat defeats the purpose. That said, sound value at Rs 3499
