Fitness watchers, the sporty Huawei Watch GT 2E is tailor-made for you

It comes with 100 workout modes, 15 of them professional ones and 85 that you can custom set.

Chennai: As China reopens its factories after the coronavirus scourge, the launch of Huawei’s Watch GT 2E piques some interest.

The sporty upgrade to the Huawei Watch GT 2 is targeted specifically at fitness buffs, and seems to have preempted Apple’s release of a free fitness app that would sync with the Apple Watch and provide guided workouts.

The Huawei Watch GT 2E comes loaded with 100 workout modes—15 professional ones and 85 custom set. While most of the workouts are outdoor-focused and not intended for the coronavirus lockdown, the Huawei Watch GT 2E will be a cool aid to have once things are back to normal and you want to explore the outdoors, climbing, cycling, hiking swimming, rock climbing or skateboarding.

You can also get started right away with indoor professional workouts.

And while you’re at it, your Huawei Watch GT 2E monitors your blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) level using a dedicated IR sensor.

It’s also nice that you can store as many as 500 songs on the Watch GT 2E (it has a competent 4GB memory to do that), and that the wearable device will alert you on incoming calls, SMS messages, emails, and calendar events too, apart from giving you the weather forecast. All these features as well as the alarm, timer, flashlight and the find-my-phone features are unchanged from the GT 2.

What’s changed is the design, to match with its sporty avatar. They now come with rubber straps. Set to be in stores in Europe next month, the Huawei Watch GT 2E will be available in Black Stainless Steel and Stainless Steel options for the dial, with straps in Icy White, Lava Red, Mint Green and Graphite Black, at a price of €199 (Rs 16,500 approximately).

All other tech is similar to the Watch GT 2 launched in September last year – a 1.39 inch AMOLED watch face with a crisp touchscreen, two weeks of battery life and water resistance up to 50 metres. It also stays with the Kirin A1 chipset.

While the Watch GT 2E has been launched, Huawei has not abandoned its earlier avatar. The Watch GT 2 now has been launched in an all new gold variant, with the steel casing of the watch now sporting a gold finish. And when it comes to gold, you gotta pay more. With a white strap, you get the shiny model for €229 (about Rs 19,000), while it will cost you €249 (nearly Rs 21,000) for a red strap.
