Game full of sore points
Battleborn’s recently concluded beta was a ton of fun, however after spending enough time with the full game you come to realise the game doesn’t have much more to offer.
Battleborn is an FPS/MOBA that has the unfortunate pleasure of going up against the mammoth that is Overwatch. While the game itself is fun, the fact that characters are locked behind tedious progression in a paid game doesn’t help it at all. The games first person mechanics and certain champions make it extremely fun to play with friends, however it all comes back to the grind of unlocking champions via challenges or level ups, both of which are ridiculous for a game where you’ve already paid the developers. Another sore point is the item system, you must open ‘packs’ much like Fifa Ultimate Team to get items to use on characters, safe to say I’m not a huge fan of the system.
If you do manage to look past all these shortcomings and annoyances, Battleborn can be a lot of fun with friends. Whether it’s jumping into the campaign or one of the three multiplayer playlists. Most games in the genre completely ignore any form of singleplayer experience, Battleborn has tried to counter that with a campaign which is quite enjoyable thanks to some great writing and voice acting, but it’s by no means a memorable story.
In game the melee champions have a tendancy to feel slightly awkward with the ranged champions feeling much more natural and comfortable, however melee heroes can be extremely devastating once you get the hang of them. So put a little thought into your team composition and loadout. While I do enjoy Battleborn every now and then, I cannot see myself going back at all once Overwatch comes out, however if you are looking for a price sensitive game then Battleborn is perfect at Rs 999 on PC.
