VR meets cricket
Last month, Pune based JetSynthesys partnered the Master Blaster to launch Sachin Saga VR, a multiplayer virtual reality cricket game using a supplied VR headset , a Bluetooth controller and a bundle of compatible apps. The wearer can slip into Sachin's persona, as he plays 28 cricketing shots -- during 100 cricket matches in real world stadia.... or you can play your own game against the world's best bowlers. The entire kit with the app downloadable at vr.sachinsaga.com costs Rs 1999.
Taking VR in another direction, engineering grads Sama Vasantha Sai of IIIT Hyderabad and Kothinti Trivikrama Reddy IIT Delhi co-founded iB Cricket, a Hyderabad-based startup which in a very short time has found franchisees in over a dozen Indian cities -- as well as setting up offices in Dubai, Australia, London and Singapore to create real-life arcades, where customers can put on a VR headset, pick up a special instrumented bat and transport themselves to the middle of a crowded stadium of cheering fans as they take on the world's best bowling.
Added realism is achieved by including the voice of Harsha Bhogle and other commentators. iB Cricket also runs its own Super Over league with four teams headed by the likes of VVS Laxman and Virendra Sehwag, whose matches can be viewed onYouTube and other online sports sites.
