WhatsApp connects billions on New Years
Popular messaging app, WhatsApp has redefined the way people connect. A freeware and cross-platform which allows exchanging of text messages, voice and video calls, media and documents has made our life a lot easier.
A record breaking use of WhatsApp was witnessed on December 31 worldwide. WhatsApp, in a statement released recently confirmed that 75 billion messages were sent worldwide, out of which 20 billion were just from India. Also, the recorded data is recorded between 12 am to 11:59 pm PST only, on December 31.
These figures in fact record the highest-ever number of messages shared on the platform, which has over 1 billion users worldwide and counts India as its biggest market with 200 million active users. This data represents huge volume and user activity on the platform.
The app had also suffered an outage lasting more than an hour late on December 31, 2017 and in the early hours from January 1, 2018.
No reason for the outage was given by the company regarding the matter and only said, “WhatsApp users around the world experienced a brief outage today that has now been resolved.”
