8chan founder wants site to be taken down after deadly El Paso shooting

Fredrick Brennan, the founder of 8chan has called for the site to be taken down after a mass shooting incident in El Paso, Texas. The shooting resulted in 20 deaths and several injuries to others.

Brennan had founded 8chan back in 2013. He had however cut ties with the platform in December. 8chan is an internet messaging service that had become a tool for propogating extremist content online. “The board is a receptive audience for domestic terrorists,” said Brennan to the Washington Post.

"Once again, a terrorist used 8chan to spread his message as he knew people would save it and spread it," said Brennan.

Authorities are currently investigating an anti-immigrant manifesto which had been circulated merely hours ahead of the shooting incident. Whether the shooter had written the racist document or not is being looked into by the El Paso Police, as said by Police Chief Greg Allen.

The suspect of the shooting is a white male from Allen, Texas who is 21 years of age. The manifesto suggests discriminatory views and views Hispanic people as a threat who will turn Texas into a democrat stronghold.

The case is currently being treated as a ‘domestic terrorist’ case.

Hours after the shooting at El Paso, another shooting occured in Dayton, Ohio, which killed 9 and injured 27.
