People on social media have had a gala time of late as a Pakistani news anchor recently confused the smartphone giant, Apple with the fruit during a discussion that was televised live. Social media went ballistic and in the only way, Twitter knows how they poked fun at the hapless individual.

A panellist on the show was relating the financial position of Apple Inc with the economic position of Pakistan and said, “Apple’s business is so much more than even Pakistan’s budget.”

To this, the anchor responded, “Yes, I have heard that Apple's (fruit) business has been thriving lately and there are various varieties of it.” This unfortunate but hilarious incident has caused the anchor to get trolled on social media for not quite figuring out the context mentioned by the panellist.

ANI reports that a Pakistani journalist uploaded the clip of the news on social media on July 4 and it went viral. The panellist responded to the anchor’s oblivious statement by saying, “I am talking about the Apple company, not the fruit.”

Twitter immediately reacted to this gaffe by teasing the anchor with one user calling it ‘news channel or comedy show’ while another said, “that is why people say an apple a day keeps the doctor away but they don’t say psychiatrist away”.

Another user took a cheeky dig at Pakistani media by stating, “Level of Journalism in Pakistan!!’ and another said, “Poor anchor still thinking about grocery after the show.”

Naturally, some came to the news anchor’s defence by insisting that had the panellist been more articulate with his remark, the anchor would not have been confused. A user stated, “It is the guy who failed to qualify his argument properly! Just apple means fruit!”
