JioPhone to get Google's voice
Google seems to have big plans for users of the Reliance JioPhone. They have unveiled a special version of its AI-based search assistant that will come to feature phones and the first one to reap the benefits will be the JioPhone.
The Reliance JioPhone with 4G VoLTE already comes preloaded with an assistant that can take voice commands. Google’s virtual assistant for JioPhone will be available both in English and Hindi. So far, this feature has been available only for Android, iOS and Android Wear devices. As of now, it is not yet known when the Assistant will be released to the handset.
JioPhone users will now get instant and relevant information about their search queries. During the event, Google showcased how users can activate Google Assistant and how it will be able to deliver search results, play music and send text messages, all using voice commands.
The 4G VoLTE-enabled JioPhone was unveiled in July and started shipping in October for those who pre-booked it. The phone is indirectly free — buyers need to pay Rs 1,500 as security deposit which is refundable after three years. The handset sports a 2.4-inch display and has a 2MP rear camera along with a VGA selfie camera.
The smartphone draws its power from a 2000mAh battery. It has a single nano-SIM slot and a microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB of expandable storage, apart from the device's 4GB internal storage. Users also get to use Wi-Fi networks and NFC for digital payments. The handset also supports 22 Indian languages.
