Facebook Lite gets Security Check
Facebook’s Safety Check feature has been put into test since last year over several countries. The feature is Facebook’s part to help friends and relatives in the event of a crisis, letting each other know about their safety. However, the feature was only limited to the main app for phones till now, which limited the scope of its use. Therefore, Facebook has made it available to their ‘Lite’ app now.
The ‘Lite’ app is lightened version of the mainstream Facebook app, which takes up less space on smartphones and works with 2G Internet connections as well. The Lite app is suitable for budget Android smartphone users, especially in developing countries such as India and Brazil. With Safety Check now available for low-end smartphones, users will able to communicate their well-being across their friends’ timeline and keeping them informed. Facebook states that Safety Check has been activated more than 1,000 times in countries around the world and has already notified people that their families and friends are safe more than 3 billion times.
Apart from the Lite app, Facebook also has a Messenger Lite app, which is a similarly lightened version of the heavily-bloated Messenger app. The Lite versions of Facebook apps will be perfectly suited for the new upcoming range of budget-oriented Android Go devices set to break cover soon.
