Find your friends easy

Instagram has rolled out a new feature to find people you have met.

Making friends through apps is a wind that has swept away almost every internet user around the globe. It is quite interesting to discover that you liked the views and personality of a random person you met one day and would not mind become friends with him/her.

Thankfully, Instagram has rolled out a new feature for the same called Nametag. The feature helps you follow someone on Instagram by scanning their nametag when you meet them. This way, you can connect with new people in person without giving away too much of your personal information. Trying to search for someone new on Instagram can be a long process as there can be multiple users with the same name. Nametag helps you bypass the searching process by automatically linking your new friend's Instagram profile onto the screen. To use the feature, you can go to your profile, hit the menu button on the top right, and select “Nametag” to display your own code.

You can also personalise your nametag with emojis, designs, selfies, colours, and more. In order to scan someone else's nametag, you'll have to open your Instagram camera. Once it's open, hover over your friend-to-be's nametag and hold down on the screen. Once the nametag processes, you'll see a link to the user's profile and a button where you can follow them on the spot. You can also view someone's nametag by opening your own, and then pressing "Scan a nametag." There is also a provision available to send the nametag to your friends. You can do so by pressing the arrow at the top right-hand corner of your screen. That'll let you share it via text message and on other sites, like Facebook and WhatsApp.

Similar functionality is already available across other social media networks. Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat users can generate QR codes for others to scan and quickly find accounts, while Spotify offers the same for music tracks. Nametag was launched globally October 4, and it’s available on both iOS and Android platforms. It has also been reported that alongside Nametag, Instagram is testing a new bio field at some US universities, which will allow you to add your school, class year, and society memberships. Searching for this information will then show you a directory of everyone at that institution, making it easier to find and add classmates and for Facebook to gather more information about you.
