Google Assistant can now tell you what song is playing
One of the coolest features to grace Google's flagship Pixel 2 was its ability to identify songs playing in the background. Since this was a software-based feature, eager audiophiles with older or less-abled Android phones have been looking forward to taste this feature. Guess what? Google has acknowledged and has baked it in Google Assistant.
The Google Assistant can now recognise what songs are playing around you. An update came on all devices running Google's virtual AI assistant. Users can now ask the name of the song playing in the vicinity of the device. Once the Assistant identifies the song, you will get a card that shows the name of the song, the artist and lyrics of the track. You also get links to that track on YouTube, Google Play Music and Spotify.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have the ability to listen and identify the song, listing its name on the Always On Display. However, that music recognition only kicks in after about a minute of listening and only works on popular songs.
