The Giant Magellan Telescope will be the biggest ground based telescope and produce 10 times better pictures than Hubble space telescope.

The telescope is expected to be finished by 2023 and will see the light of the day by 2026.

Space is a never-ending mystery and astronomers have always been trying to find how we came into existence. The Hubble space telescope has been responsible for digging deep into the space and uncovering things that we cannot see or aren’t aware of. However, as technology improves, the need to upgrade existing technologies increases and therefore a new giant telescope is on the horizon. It will be called the Giant Magellan Telescope and will be built in Chile.

While the Giant Magellan Telescope will have unparalleled optical abilities with its seven giant mirrors, the process of making such large mirrors with the finest of finishes is a difficult task. In fact, it takes several years to complete one giant mirror for one of these telescopes. Check out the video below to see how one of the seven mirrors for the Giant Magellan Telescope is manufactured.

Work on the Giant Magellan Telescope has been going for over a decade, with the first mirror initiated in 2005. The telescope is expected to be finished by 2023 and will see the light of the day by 2026.
