Bixby to get sports-savvy

Samsung and theScore have joined hands to give Bixby sports updates.

Samsung’s voice-powered digital assistant named Bixby is an effort by the company to match its competitors — Apple, Amazon and Google — in the area of smart assistant. It comes with three parts, namely — Bixby Voice, Bixby Vision and Bixby Home. In a new addition to the app, the company has announced that Bixby Home will now offer sports scores and up-to-the-minute news coverage in the US. For accomplishing the same, Samsung has partnered with the Score, bringing live sports scores and news from the top sports leagues. The feature will be included in Bixby Home from August and the feature will bring with it customisable notifications based on sports or specific teams. As it is customisable, one can get updates of the sport he/she is interested in and unnecessary updates can be cancelled. Commenting on the new integration, founder and CEO of theScore John Levy was quoted as saying, “We are happy to provide theScore updates through Bixby.

This enables us to showcase the features that have made the Score one of the most popular sports apps in North America to a huge audience, delivering to sports fans on Bixby Home a highly-customisable experience and access to their scores and news headlines at a glance.” Ever since Bixby hit the scene in 2017, the critics had termed it a half-baked application in comparison to Apple’s Siri, Amazon's Alexa and Google Assistant and that the version of Bixby installed in Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus was not up to the mark. However, it is anticipated that Samsung is saving big feature updates for Bixby 2.0, which should arrive with the next Galaxy Note. New features like the Score’s sports stats and news will be added to the revamp.
