Hackers take over top music videos on YouTube
Vevo's YouTube account seems to have fallen prey to hackers as recently a fraction of high-profile music videos reportedly vanished from YouTube.
'Despacito' is Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s one of most viewed YouTube video of all time, with more than five Billion views. Sadly, the video disappeared from the site. The music video's cover photo was replaced with an image showing a group of people wearing masks and holding guns. The video was then temporarily pulled down until the problem was fixed.
Additionally, the hackers also defaced videos of other artists including Taylor Swift, Adele, Katy Perry, Iggy Azalea, Eminem, Maroon 5, Shakira, Selena Gomez, DJ Snake, Drake and Chris Brown.
"After seeing unusual upload activity on a handful of Vevo channels, we worked quickly with our partner to disable access while they investigate the issue," according to the BBC.
"Vevo can confirm that a number of videos in its catalogue were subject to a security breach today, which has now been contained," a Vevo spokeswoman said in a statement.
Vevo added, "We are working to reinstate all videos affected and our catalogue to be restored to full working order. We are continuing to investigate the source of the breach."
Moreover, earlier in September 2017, Vevo encountered a breach when some of its files were leaked online.
