Intel has launched a new halo CPU, the Xeon E7-8894 V4 processor, which is its highest-performing 24-core processor. The Xeon E7 that will help aid mission-critical servers is based on the Broadwell-EX die that has around 200MHz higher base frequency than before. Intel states that the new processor has set a number of records in various benchmarks.

The flagship CPU has 24-cores with Hyper-Threading technology, 60MB of L3 cache, runs on 2.4GHz and can be overclocked to 3.4GHz. The new chip can also support quad-channel DDR3/4 RAM controllers with up to 3TB of RAM on each socket. The Xeon E7 is designed for heavy-duty servers which can support more than eight processor sockets (FCLGA2011). Since mission critical servers are required to run 24x7, the demand for such processors are higher.

Each of these processors can set the consumer back by a whopping $8898, which is the highest cost for any processor from Intel till date.
