Apple zeroes in on 2019 A13 chip manufacturer

Apple will be using the same chip manufacturer as it did with the A12 chipset as they offer high quality chips in high volumes.

Apple has only just launched the iPhone XS and XS Max and they are readying to launch the new iPhone XR handset in a few short days. Even though there are some countries in the world that have not yet received any of these handsets, the rumours about Apple’s 2019 iPhones are beginning to come in. The iPhone XS is a very speedy device and there are few handsets in the world that can match up to it. However, with every new generation iPhone, Apple debuts a new SoC and with the 2019 iPhones, we expect Apple to debut the A13 chipset.

As per a report by DigiTimes, it appears that Apple has chosen which manufacturer will be supplying the chipsets to their next generation iPhones. Apple has narrowed down on TSMC to supply them with chips for the 2019 iPhone, the same manufacturer that provided the 2018 chipsets. In fact, TSMC has been supplying Apple with chips since the A10 was introduced in 2016 and they are said to be the exclusive manufacturer for at least for one generation more. As with every iPhone chipset, Apple will stick to designing the chips in-house.

The report states that Apple has picked TSMC because they are able to supply high-quality chips at high volumes and are capable of meeting Apple’s requirements. The report also claims that Apple wants to make sure that it possesses the required inventory before launching new iPhone handsets.

There is a bit of information on the A12X chipset as well. With the upcoming SoC, the A12X will likely be built around the same 7nm platform as the A12 and this offers improvements in overall performance and battery life. These chips will most likely be used in the upcoming iPad that are believed to debut in the near future.
