Dark Souls a remastered glory

The remastering of the game has been going on for over a year now and finally the wait is over.

The Dark Souls franchise has been the gold standard for what it means to be a hardcore PC gamer, and a little bit of a masochist for the longest time. The games belonging to the series have always been gritty, visceral and harder to beat than Godzilla on steroids. They have also set the bar for what it means to have a very deep lore, but not holding the player’s hands through it like it’s an interactive movie. The games have always let the player experience the story the way they want and thus has been hailed and lauded as a masterclass in storytelling via the medium of games.

Now, after years of its initial release, the original Dark Souls is all set for a facelift and we will be getting a remastered version for the PC, PS4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch. According to sources this is not a project that was conceived at the drop of a hat and the team hastily assembled, it has been in the works for almost a year and the team handling the PC, Xbox One and PS4 ports are the awesome fellows from the Polish studio, QLOC. The remaster is going to be around $40 USD for console owners, however, it doesn’t seem like PC folks will benefit from the reduced price. FromSoftware is also involved with the development of the ports, however, their involvement is minimal and the bulk of the work is being handled by QLOC, and that’s a good thing as QLOC as an impressive resume of producing great PC ports such as Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, Dead Rising HD Remaster, Resident Evil 6 and so on under their belt.

I am really looking forward to see what QLOC and FromSoftware deliver as I have always been a huge fan of the franchise and can’t wait to sink my teeth into the remastered version of Dark Souls and revisit the pain train where it all started in all its remastered glory.
