Microsoft pulls of Windows 10 upgrade for smartphones
There is a lot of speculation going on online about the future of Windows smartphones, and Microsoft has done nothing except fuel rumors pointing towards the demise of the platform.
One of the most recent happenings pointing in this direction is changes happening with the Upgrade Advisor app which was released in 2015. This was the same time when MS shipped its Windows 10 Mobile for Windows Phone 8.1 devices to ease the transition and make it smoother.
The Upgrade Advisor app disappeared from the Windows Store before the weekend, making everyone believe that Microsoft actually killed the main path for going from Windows Phone to Windows 10 Mobile. The app, however, returned to the Windows Store today, and can now be installed by anyone with a Windows Phone 8.1 device.
Eves as the app is back in the Store, it looks like users still can’t upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, with many complaints stating that the new operating system is no longer being offered through the app.
There are users who are getting an error message stating that Microsoft is aware of the problem, which is apparently related to device compatibility with Windows 10 Mobile.
“The Windows 10 upgrade isn’t available for your phone right now. We’re trying to determine if your phone can support Windows 10,” the error message reads.
It’s believed that the Upgrade Advisor app is hitting some errors because Microsoft is updating it for the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update, which would only become available for a handful of devices. Also, the Windows 10 Creators Update is launching for mobile devices next week on April 25.
