Latest WhatsApp beta gets notification channel support
Android Oreo may not be available to world widely till now but that hasn’t stopped WhatsApp from adding new features to the popular messenger platform. There was a report of the addition of video call switch feature a few days ago and now a report from Android Police has unearthed new notification controls in a beta version of the app, which will enhance the ‘WhatsApp experience’ for Android Oreo users.
According to the report, WhatsApp is testing up to 10 notification channels on the messenger app for Android Oreo. Users will be able to control various types of notifications for each type of notification that WhatsApp keeps giving out, through control over sound, notification dots, notification centre view and so on. Users can choose how group notifications behave and differ them from individual notifications. This will be particularly useful for those looking to hide the persistent WhatsApp Web notification when in use or annoying WhatsApp group messages, without disabling notifications at all. With live notifications, users can tap and hold to interact with more options related to a particular notification.
Do note that this feature was observed on a beta version of WhatsApp running on a stock Android Oreo device. If your phone is running Android Oreo, then you can head to the PlayStore to get the latest beta version of WhatsApp (2.18.18) to enjoy the new features.
