Research finds 63 per cent iPhones sold ever still in use

Apple’s iPhones define the benchmark that other smartphone manufacturers tend to achieve every year from the past 10 years. An iPhone fulfils the needs of a smartphone seeker looking for a product that simply works in every aspect. This is the reason why iPhone users prefer to keep using their devices for a considerable amount of time, which is now proven by a research.

The study finds that a whopping 62.6 percent iPhone sold since the original one’s launch in 2007 is still in use. That is a figure which no other smartphone from the rival Android ecosystem can possibly achieve. Newzoo, the firm that conducted the research, claims that iPhones accounted for 25 percent of global smartphone usage in April 2017. For your knowledge, Apple has sold 1.163 billion iPhones since 2007.

The most used iPhone in the April of this year is the iPhone 6 with 21 percent – the first iPhone with a bigger 4.7-inch display and a revamped design that is followed by the iPhones of today. The comparatively newer iPhone 6S, with 3D touch and faster processor, follows a close second at 18 percent.

The current flagship – the iPhone 7, was at 11 percent while the iPhone 6 Plus came in at 9 percent. What’s surprising is that the most advanced iPhone model – the iPhone 7 Plus with its dual camera setup, is nowhere to be seen on the list.

Apple is slated to release the next generation of iPhones sometime in the fourth quarter of this year and a flood of rumours have suggested that the world could be seeing a bezel-less iPhone 8 along with the possibility of an iPhone 7S as well as iPhone 7S Plus.
