Amongst the fierce competition in the music streaming industry, Amazon recently announced that Amazon Music would be free for all iOS and Android devices and even for the Fire TV. The announcement even brought down Spotify’s stock prices by 5 per cent.

Amazon was already offering free playlists and stations for Alexa devices like the Amazon Echo speakers. The service is now being extended to the above-mentioned devices, on which content will be free even without an Amazon Prime or Amazon Music Unlimited subscription.

The ad-supported free service will make Amazon music a direct competitor to several other music-streaming services like Spotify, Google Play Music, Pandora, Gaana and JioSaavn.

Amazon’s collection of over 2 million songs is, however, no match for the 40 million+ songs that Spotify can boast of. However, if you were to opt for Ad-free music, an Amazon Music Unlimited subscription will give you access to over 50 million songs. Alternatively, you could get an Amazon Prime membership and have access to the same 2 million songs without ads.
