DJ with SoundCloud!
SoundCloud, the music and podcast streaming platform is all set to introduce a rocking feature using which anybody can be a disco jockey! According to SoundCloud CEO Kerry Trainor, SoundCloud is partnering with companies that offer DJ software like Native Instruments, Serato, Virtual DJ, DEX 3, Mixvibes, and DJuced/Hercules. Soon, a user will be able to mix and perform by streaming material from SoundCloud’s catalog within DJ software – realtime. No more performance using downloaded digital music and hard work that goes into mixing.
Before SoundCloud, DJs had been accessing to a streaming catalog within mixing software after DJay Pro 2 integrated the service. “Until recently, digital workflows for DJs were limited to downloads and physical media, but streaming workflows are the future,” Trainor said, expressing the excitement to partner with leading firms ‘to help DJs take their workflow to the next level.’
To bolster the integration, SoundCloud has announced that it has added high quality streaming to SoundCloud Go+, the subscription of which lets one use the integration. Content uploaded in a high bitrate or lossless format can now be streamed back at AAC 256 kbps via an opt-in setting. In terms of quality, AAC 256 kbps is comparable to a 320 kbps MP3 and most people can’t tell the difference.
Whether DJs will adopt the feature during live shows is yet to know, as relying on an uninterrupted and fast Wi-Fi connection seems a little risky, but there’s no doubt that this is a savvy move.
According to a report by Variety, Soundcloud’s integration with DJ software will roll out in 2019.
