Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite launched
Xiaomi has finally launched the second generation of its Android One smartphones — Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite at its Global launch event in Spain. The Mi A2 is the successor to the Mi A1, launched last year in India as the first Android One smartphone from Xiaomi. Both the smartphones will be available in three colour variants — Black, Blue, and Gold.
The Mi A2 flaunts a 5.99-inch 18:9 display with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass for protection. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 chipset aided by up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and is backed by a 3010mAh, with support for QuickCharge 3.0.
The biggest USP of the device is its AI-powered cameras. The Mi A2 features a dual rear camera system, comprising of a 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor with a f/1.75 aperture and a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with the same aperture along with dual-tone LED flash. For selfies, the handset sports a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with f/1.75 aperture assisted by a soft LED flash. The cameras facilitate features such as AI Scene Recognition, AI Portrait Mode, AI Background Bokeh and AI Smart Beauty 4.0. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Miracast, IR emitter. The smartphone does offer a USB Type-C port, however, there is no 3.5mm earphone jack this time.
Coming to the Mi A2 Lite, the device embraces a 5.84-inch full HD+ notched display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. At its core, the handset runs on a Snapdragon 625 SoC, clubbed with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 256GB. It is kept alive by a 4000mAh battery. The A2 Lite features a 12MP+5MP dual rear camera setup and a 5MP front shooter for selfies. Xiaomi is also touting AI Portrait Mode as well as AI Scene Recognition features. Connectivity options include 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth v4.2, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, GPS and a micro-USB port.
The Mi A2 is priced at EUR 249 (approx Rs 20,100) for the 4GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant, EUR 279 (approx Rs 22,500) for the 4GB/64GB configuration, and EUR 349 (approx Rs 28,100) for the 6GB/128GB variant. The Mi A2 Lite, on the other hand, costs EUR 179 (approx Rs 14,400) for the 3GB/32GB configuration and EUR 229 (approx Rs 18,400) for the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant. As for the availability of the phones, Xiaomi Mi A2 will be available in 40 countries globally, including in India. Additionally, the company will not launch the Mi A2 Lite in the country.
